Resetting your bad Day – Part 1

Introduction

What is a bad day?

Bad is a subjective word and varies from person to person and so is ‘Bad Day’. I have a friend who says that he is not capable of working on cloudy days. My Son who has turned 13 this year, believes that if he gets scolded during the morning hours, he would be scolded all day long. A few years back when I was not me, my wife used to tell me, I got angry at each and everything that came my way. I used to carry a frowny face all the time. They are all examples of a day when someone believed is turning into a bad day.

Various reasons to trigger a bad day

People born with silver spoons, if they lose money in the share market, the day is bad. An employee could not present his idea well in front of his supervisor, it is a bad day for him. The interviewer could not be satisfied with your answer, that is a bad day. You are getting late to your office and found that your clothes are not straight, it is a bad day. There are situations when sneezing is believed to bring bad omen if you are about to start a new day or new task. A black cat crossing your way can be bad in your thoughts. It is possible that you get scolded by your boss, you have a fight with your spouse, or traffic is clogged while you are driving to the office and you could not reach on time. There can be millions of scenarios to trigger a bad day. Our intelligence labels trifle things as bad events making the day a “Bad Day”.  Hence, we can say if you start looking at things in a negative way, your bad day starts. There are days when you converse with yourself that you are terrible and it starts making you feel small.

Reasons to trigger a bad day:

  • Short term problems – Most of the time short term problems trigger the bad day. For example:  Getting late for the office and you are still searching for an important piece of paper or you are getting ready for an interview and you are not happy with the way your tie matches with your suit. Your kid is not well and there is an important client visit in your office,  you are in a fix. It is possible that you hit somebody’s car while going to the office and that created a lot of hue and cry in the middle of the road. You have to serve a legal notice and pay a hefty amount as compensation.
  • Reminders of long-term problems – A fight long ago, which was a direct hit on your ego keeps reminding you of your insult. A relationship issue with your partner or a financial problem you are going to face due to some of your bad decisions. A pending court case is making your days terrible.
  • Bad Dreams – Bad dreams also trigger bad day.
  • Bad Data – Our sense organs register millions of bits of data if we see a terrible thing or hear a gruesome incident it remains with us all day long

When you give up

But in reality, days are never bad. Every day is a new day and has the potential to bring enormous attainment in our lives. it is our action that is not congruent to our expectation and we say the Day is bad. Once a negative thought creeps in our mind it creates hopelessness and disappointments. Our mind believes something, and the body does not respond as per the mind expectation, it creates a bad day. As we have heard a number of times, the mind creates matter. Our strong belief system creates situations which triggers the series of unfortunate incidents. We face unfortunate events one after another and sometimes we are so terribly stuck in it that we say to God, “OK God! I give up.” A bad day is as real as you create it. We desperately want to stop these undesirable events and reset our day to save this day. Both a plus and a minus point is when we realize that our day is screwed up, we already have spent a significant number of hours of the day. Good thing is that we still want to save the day and the bad thing is we have lost those many hours of the day and only a few hours left to bring the day back on track. Actually, the day is bad for those who are underprivileged, who do not have food to eat, who do not have shelter to sleep, or a person suffering from the terminal disease on his deathbed.

It is very important to understand our own world to handle the situation better. All of us have an inner world and an outer world. A small negative change in the inner world creates a lot of chaos in the outer world. If we know well how to handle our inner world or precisely if we know how to handle our body and mind, we can bring a significant change in our outer world. It is difficult to deal with everyone in this world. So the best way is to train our minds so that you remain calm in all unexpected and undesirable situations. Cortisol is a hormone that is responsible for creating anxiety, fear, and phobias. In other words, it is needed for the famous “Fight or Flight”. Usually, these hormones have a lot of good effects but overproduction or underproduction causes different diseases. So a person continuously under stress is more susceptible to face medical conditions like high blood pressure, fat on stomach and hips area loss of hair, etc.
